About Elliot Tyler

Elliot Tyler was born in Harold Wood, Essex, the son of a rail executive and city magistrate. He was educated at Emerson Park School, formerly Hornchurch Grammar School. His sister, Lydia, attended the same school and later graduated from Oxford University. As a youth, Elliot was a Metropolitan Police Cadet, holding the rank of Deputy Captain and subsequently receiving a Superintendent’s Commendation.

After completing his A-levels at a sixth form college in Upminster, he founded Club Night Events Ltd, an events management business, with music producer Jack Fallon. He studied Computing at Portsmouth University as a Billington Scholar, then read Law as a postgraduate at Birkbeck, London University.

Elliot has worked for an executive agency of the Ministry of Justice since 2022. He previously worked as a prison service contractor, improving healthcare provision by engaging with serving prisoners. He was published in the SAGE academic peer-reviewed Probation Journal and his work has been featured on the Portsmouth Research Portal, a showcase of exceptional work by the university.

Elliot’s interest in justice began when visiting a friend in HMP Pentonville. Since then, he has served as Deputy Editor of The Justice Gap’s print magazine Proof and as a Contributing Editor of The View Magazine. He has written opinion pieces for Human Rights Pulse, the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies, and Inside Time. He has appeared as a guest writer in The Canary, a popular political affairs website, and on the Longford Blog, a discussion in memory of the late Earl of Longford.

In his spare time, he volunteers with the National Trust as a coast and countryside ranger. He is an enthusiastic collector of art, a keen European traveller, an enjoyer of running (up to half marathon distance), and has been highly ranked as a competitive chess player.
